BlackBerry Q5 merupakan saudara dari BlackBerry Q10 yang mana hadir dengan dukungan QWERTY keypad dan layar sentuh. Blackberry Q5 ini ditujukan untuk pangsa pasar negara berkembang dan tentunya mempunyai harga yang lebih murah dibanding BlackBerry Q10.

Hadir dengan layar sentuh LCD berukuran 3.1 inci dan resolusi sebesar 720 x 720 piksel, BlackBerry Q5 ditenagai dengan prosesor dual core 1.2GHz dan memiliki kapasitas memori internal sebesar 8GB plus slot microSD.

BBM Channels, Social Networking baru di BlackBerry

Aplikasi andalan di BlackBerry yaitu BlackBerry Messenger (BBM), akan mendapatkan tambahan fitur baru bernama BBM Channels.

BBM Channels ini adalah fitur tambahan untuk fitur chatting, BBM. BBM Channels ini berfungsi sebagai sarana komunikasi antara pemilik perangkat dengan para followernya atau juga dapat digunakan sebagai penghubung antara brand, perusahaan atau komunitas dengan pihak lainnya.

BBM Channels ini bisa dibilang seperti sebuah forum yang mana kedua belah pihak dapat saling berkomunikasi, mendapatkan update secara langsung dari pihak pertama serta berkomentar di channel tersebut.

Kalau dilihat secara tam[pilan, BBM Channels ini mempunyai tampilan yang berbeda dibanding dengan BBM versi sebelumnya. Chats, contact, groups dan updates dipisahkan di layar tersendiri dengan pengaksesan cepat melalui icon di toolbar. Toolbar atau layar baru yang merupakan tambahan fitur dari BBM sebelumnya, yaitu channels itulah yang merupakan social network ala BlackBerry yang ditanamkan pada BBM ini.

Create, edit & publish in an instant. Or connect to the people, communities and brands you love – receive timely posts and participate by commenting on, liking and sharing posts.

This is just the beginning of the beta cycle, stay with us as we work with you to improve the BBM Channels experience. Download the updates, test out the features, and let us know what you think!

Channel Profile - View personalised channel profiles for each BBM Channel including additional content helping to bring the channel to life such as a welcome messages, images, maps and more.

Receive Posts - Stay up to date on the things that matter to you with instant updates from your subscribed channels. Receive notification when new posts are available and chose whether you would like to be notified.

Engagement options - Get involved in conversations with your favourite communities by commenting on and liking posts from the Channels to which you have subscribed.  Or share interesting posts with your BBM contacts.

Chat (Coming Soon) - Get more personal with one to one conversations. Many BBM Channels allow subscribers to enjoy private conversations via BBM.

Discovery - Easily find and share your favourite communities on BBM Channels.   Check out which Channels are currently featured on the carousel.  Channel invites can be shared between BBM contacts or add a Channel via PIN or QR code.

User Controls - Be in control of your notifications with the BBM Channel mute button. It allows you to select exactly which subscribed channels you would like to receive notifications from.

Create A BBM Channels

Follow these simple steps below to create your own BBM Channel. Once you’ve set up your Channel, feel free to post your Channel PIN on the program discussion boards (here) for other members of the community to subscribe to!
BBM Channels Manager:

BB10 Devices: 

1. Within Channels, select the menu icon, and choose Create Channel.
2. Pick a Channel Name. This is where you will input the name of your Channel (i.e. Little, Big City Living). Typically this is the name of your brand, store, band etc. This name is how customers can search (functionality coming soon) you, so make sure it is intuitive.
3. Upload your Channel Avatar. This image will represent your Channel. Note: Image size will vary by device. For all devices the maximum file size is 32Kb.
4. (Optional) Write a short Channel Description. This is a free form description of your channel and its content. This is a great spot to tell your audience about your channel and your story/store/product. You can edit this section at any time.
5. From the drop down menu selection your Country and Channel Category. The Country and Category information will be used to enhance future search results.
6. Insert your Contact Details.
7. Finally, set your Channel Settings: Enable BBM Chat with your Channel Members (note you can turn this feature On and Off at anytime in the channel settings). You can enable or disable channel members from commenting on your posts by selecting On or Off respectively.  Approving member comments before they post is not support for External Beta however this can be actioned through the Web Portal (https://cmc.channels.blackberry.com/bbmchannels-web-portal/get-started).
8. When you are happy with your Channel set up, select Save.

BBOS Devices: 

1. Within Channels, select New Channel, and choose Create Channel.
